In December 2024, I was featured in the Playbill Songwriter Series, which featured Alaina Anderson, Gillian Jackson Han, Kite Shepherd, Kenyon Duncan, Noah Parnes, and Heath Saunders singing songs from What Comes Next and Something in the Water. You can watch the video or read more here.
Something in the Water is the newest musical I’m writing with my collaborator, playwright and librettist Noah T. Parnes. When wealthy out-of-towners begin their annual descent upon Lake Town, three young Locals decide to scare off these “Lakers” once and for all by pretending the lake is inhabited by a monster of their creation. But things really start to get weird when they start to believe there really is something hiding in Lake Town beyond their control.
This show is our response to a political environment that increasingly feeds on conspiracy and paranoia at a fever pitch — what happens if we can only find unity by turning the unknown and unfamiliar into monsters to rally against?
Something in the Water received a staged reading at Phillips Exeter Academy in May 2024.
What Comes Next follows the Fisher family after and before the death of their son, Max. Told in three act, three birthdays, and three years out of chronological order, this show is about moving through a life full of the unexpected, watching your world fall apart around you, and trying to continue on anyway.
This was my first collaboration with Noah T. Parnes and started as my senior thesis at Yale before seeing a small workshop production at Phillips Exeter Academy in March 2021.
